My Story
I remember being about ten years old when the reality of this hypocritical world set in.I remember questioning ,constantly, why we did what we did.
Why were we not allowed to hurt and kill a dog~ but we could wear fur?
As an adult everyday day life took over.I was too busy to hear what my heart was always telling me. Love animals ! Take care of them! Protect them!
So, I began to volunteer for Toronto Wildlife rescue a few years ago.Driving sick and injured animals to the center for rehabilitation.
I love animals and my love should not stop there. Often people just dont understand the suffering that goes on behind closed doors in the name of fashion, science, entertainment and food. If they only knew.
Would they change thier ways? Would they boycott the Factory Farms owned by only a few top corporations? These corporations only worried about thier bottom line..not the animals.
If they new thier lipstick was made from pig fat and tested on innocent bunnies..would they change thier ways?
If they knew that cats and dogs were skinned alive in China to make fur products sold in NorthAmerica~ would they care?
If they new that most hunting worldwide is conducted in pens~where the animals have no place to run..no place to hide. Hunters going after the strongest and largest of the group~ leaving babies to starve ,or be carted off to a Zoo.
If they new that Billions of cats, dogs , rabbits, mice, rats and frogs are raised and then murdered for medical experients by students and teachers each year..would they think that was wrong? Harvard and Yale have changed and gone cruelty-free with computer programs..what about the other schools? Whats thier problem?
I guess, I felt that once I had learned more about the cruelties all around me and had changed my buying and eating habits....that I should share the information in a kind and thoughtful way. I welcome people to take their time, digest the horrible information and slowly make changes that work for them. I offer many options that can work for any person or family. I will be adding a great recipes section soon!
Since going vegetarian I have also begun volunteering as an International activist for Peta, a group who I share my animals rights values with. I also volunteer for other groups who are fighting animal atrocies everyday~like the Seal Hunt, which especially effects me.
It's hard to imagine anyone, in this day and age, needing to hac-a-pic a helpless Seal in the head. The fact that it's subsidized by the Canadian Government, makes me see that it is unsustainable and outrageous. As a Canadian I cannot sit idly by any longer..
I have a wonderful Eskimo dog, Moseby~who taught me about the sad world of Puppy Mills and why people should never buy a pet from a Pet store.
I also have a rescue cat named Stussy, who I found underneath a dumpster~who reminds us everyday why people should never walk by an animal in need!
I especially, I want to mention my Grandmother~ if it wasnt for her deep love and adoration for all animals, I may never have awoken to thier cries. Thanks Gram, for all you do for animals with your incredible wildlife art!
